These appointments come two years after the Company was incorporated to commercialise the technology discovered by Professor Edward Cocking, Fellow of the Royal Society and Director at the Centre for Crop Nitrogen Fixation at the University of Nottingham. The Company’s key technology is N-Fix®, the first and only technology for the fixing of nitrogen directly from the atmosphere for all crops. N-Fix® can satisfy up to 50% of a plant’s need for nitrogen, subsequently reducing the cost of nitrogen-based fertilisers for farmers by [<50%].

Erika Roach joins Azotic from Simplot, a privately held food and agribusiness company, where she worked with contract researchers, scientists in academia and commercial growers to make line selection decisions and develop of new methods around the regulation of crop plants improved through biotechnology. Erica has a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from Lehigh University, and a Master of Science, Agronomy, from The Pennsylvania State University.

Pedro Carvalho was previously a Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham, focusing on crop performance, root signalling and the effect that climate change has on Mediterranean Agricultural Systems. As part of his fellowship Pedro also taught, trained and co-supervised PhD and MSc students. Pedro has a BSc and MSc in Biology and Plant Physiology from Universidade de Evora, and a PhD in crop science from University of Nottingham.

Commenting on the appointments, Dr David Dent, Chief Technical Officer at Azotic Technologies, said: “We are delighted to have appointed both Erika and Pedro to the Azotic Technologies research team. They are both highly skilled and capable scientists with extensive knowledge and experience in crop science.
